New Year. New You.

With the happy glow of my white twinkle lights making me feel cozy and relaxed, my mind now drifts to new adventures. My 2016 has been filled with so many amazing accomplishments, firsts, and personal milestones: I bought my first dining table with leaves (vintage made-in-Denmark!), hosted my first family Christmas, moved to a brand-new state where I didn’t know a soul, formed new friendships, and got even closer to my old friends. All in all it was a very good year as Frank Sinatra would say. I’m excited to see what 2017 has in store for me, my friends, family, and Cause A Frockus. It’s time for a new year. New you. Let’s allow vintage amazingness to guide us in this journey…
When it comes to firsts, our stroll through vintage history has introduced us to great people who forged ahead with focused determination (see Sandwina), used their surroundings to inspire new inventions (see Tom Williams of Maybelline fame), or went with the flow during a happy accident (see the start of bakelite). And the firsts just keep coming.
The Ringling Brothers Circus has been around for 146 years, a symbol of good ol’ fashioned American fun for all ages. But this year a pretty epic first happened: they have announced their first female ringmaster! Kristen Michelle Wilson of Florida nabbed the honor, beating out 100 other hopefuls. Her excitement is infectious; just hear what she has to say about the new gig: “Ever since I was a child, I have loved performing and entertaining,” she said. “So, to join the ‘greatest show on earth’ is truly just the biggest thrill of my life. It’s a bucket list-level opportunity I never even imagined.”
What will you tackle in the new year that becomes your biggest thrill? Let us know about your bucket-list level goals in the comments…
