For this month’s beauty tutorial, the wonderful Ashton Plummer at Pinup Salon in Austin, Texas gives us some Brigitte Bardot makeup tips. Ms. Bardot has been an iconic figure since bursting onto the cinematic scene in the early 1950s. Her beauty and talent won over American audiences, while her style inspired many a housewife’s fashion. Join us as we learn more about creating your own spin on a Brigitte-inspired look: from capturing that voluminous hair that we envied to the gorgeous eye makeup that transfixed us!
Brigitte Bardot makeup tips
Nothing says classic beauty as instantly as an amazing red lip. In this example, Ashton has centered the entire look around the stunning shade. Remember, when you are selecting the right red tone for you consider your hair color first. To make your lipstick look its best, start with a moisturized base. As Ashton pointed out to us before, you will want to exfoliate your lips on a regular basis so you’re always looking your best.
To give the look a modern twist, Ashton incorporated a smokey eye, using silver over the lid and blending black in at the crease. Using liquid liner at the outer edge of the eye, she made a slight cat eye shape. The cat eye look is classic Brigitte and 1960s glam. Keep in mind that Brigitte was not afraid to accentuate her eyes to the extreme so have fun with it – build the cat eye up as you go until you feel you’ve captured the perfect shape for you!
Brigitte Bardot hairstyle
When it comes to achieving a 1960s or 1950s hairstyle, volume is everything! To get the look, you will start with some light teasing through the crown and then curl everything away from the face with a 1 1/4″ barrel curling iron. Ms. Bardot pulled off that sexy tousled look, so you’ll want to make sure your hair has good movement. Shake it about and channel your inner diva! You’ll also notice that playing with accessories can be another fun way to incorporate some of the whimsy of decades past. Consider the placement of your accessories: if you want something close to the face to draw more attention to your eyes or pinned further back to emphasis your hairstyle. As with all things vintage, have fun with it and make it your own!
All in all, getting the Brigitte Bardot look is something that can easily be translated into your daily routine. An amazing red lip can go a long way in setting the stage for your vintage style and the cat eye look complements every eye shape. Before you know it you will be transforming yourself into stunning versions of your favorite icons in no time! Have any tips, tricks, or questions?
