With celebrities like Katy Perry and Beyoncé embracing bangs it’s easy to start to question a non-bang hairstyle. But before you take the plunge, our resident beauty expert Ashton with Pinup Salon gives us some good things to think about.
What to think about if you want Bettie Page bangs
The iconic Bettie look is one of the most requested styles at the salon and Ashton likes to make sure her clients consider the following before she breaks out the scissors.
Hair lines, face shapes, and cowlicks, oh my!
One of the first things she recommends is to take a good look in the mirror, focus on your hairline, and think about the amount of forehead you have. If your forehead is short, bangs are not going to flatter your natural beauty as much. Also, if you have cowlicks along your front hair line, that can make it very difficult to recreate the signature full look. Talk with your stylist about your hair’s natural qualities, how much work you’d need to and be willing to put in to the style each day, and see if you have a match at the end of your discussion!
If you decide that the Bettie Page bangs may not work for you, keep in mind that other bang styles are still viable. Ashton says that mid-length bangs (just below the brow) are very flattering for a variety of face shapes and hair types.

Maintenance
Rocking a hairstyle with bangs is bold and can be a lot of fun, but it will require maintenance. As a rule of thumb, you’re typically looking at trims every two and a half to three weeks. The super short baby bangs and long bangs won’t require as much maintenance, so you can extend that time frame out by another week or so.
Ashton’s number one tip for creating Bettie Page bangs
A good blow dry sets the stage for an awesome styling experience and these iconic bangs are no different. Ashton recommends that as you blow your hair, to dry down and shuffle the hair from the left to the right. This will help prepare your hair for the rest of the brushing and styling needed.
